The University of Bologna was founded in 1088 and is considered to be the oldest university in the Western world. Nowadays, it is one of the most important Higher Education Institutions across Europe with more than 81.000 enrolled students, and 6.000 permanent staff. UNIBO offers a vast array of programmes at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle of studies and is fully committed to the implementation of the Bologna Process. The number of foreign students regularly enrolled figures around 5.400, and other 2.200 arrive every year on international mobility programs such as LLP/Erasmus, Overseas and Erasmus Mundus Action 2. Around 2.000 UNIBO students participate every year in international mobility exchanges and have experiences abroad.

Internationalisation is one of the key priorities of UNIBO: in the last years, it has increased its cooperation with Higher Education Institutions from Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Balkans especially thanks to EU funded projects for university cooperation.
